Happy Box

With the hustle and bustle of everyday life it can be hard to do acts of service. There, I said it. We all know it is important to help others but sometimes the homework, full-time job, diaper changing, carpooling and cleaning cause us to only look at our own needs and not the needs of others. Let us give you an idea for a fun way to serve others in 2016!

Last year two of our SIS writers, Ashley and Andrea decided to follow an idea posted by The Girls with Glasses, (who are so awesome and you should check them out if you haven’t already). These friends created “Happy Boxes” and gave them out to friends or acquaintances they knew were in need of a little boost. Latching onto this idea A & A made it a goal to give out at least one happy box a month in 2016.

A happy box is just like it sounds: a box full of things to make you happy! Items Ashley and Andrea included in their boxes were:

-A burned CD (YES, AN ACTUAL CD!) of happy songs

-Chocolate

-A candle

-Anything adorable from the dollar section at Target

-A kind note telling the person how wonderful they are

A&A don’t live in the same state so this was a way for them to stay connected and report back to each other how their service was going. It helped them look outside themselves and for opportunities to help those around them.

If you are looking for a fun way to serve people outside your immediate family, (or even IN your immediate family!), consider doing the “Happy Box” challenge. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to do this. Just pick up a few things here or there during your monthly Trader Joes or Target visit. Cute boxes can be found at craft stores, (use a coupon for a couple dollars off!), Home Goods or Dollar Tree. You can make it an anonymous drop off or deliver it in person. Either way you will feel so happy inside 🙂 You can even get your family involved and make it a fun experience for everyone!
